Agriculture and Wine Trade Consulting

The magnitude of global trade in agriculture, and the importance of international market demand to serve as a balance for surplus and shortage fluctuations, is indisputable. Unlike other globally traded products, however, agriculture goods - both fresh and processed - demand a strict adherence to international and country-specific norms in order to gain market access. JBC International represents U.S. agricultural sector stakeholders in their efforts to improve market access, lower barriers to trade, and develop strategies for emerging market development.

In the United States, JBC International maintains high level relationships with the U.S. Administration and Congress and advocates with these entities on behalf of its clients. Within the Administration, JBC works closely with:

  • United States Trade Representative
  • Department of Agriculture
  • Department of Treasury
  • The International Trade Commission
  • Customs and Border Protection
  • The Food and Drug Administration
  • Department of State
  • Department of Commerce
  • Environmental Protection Agency

Internationally, JBC advocates for proper action and compliance from international organizations such as the World Trade Organization (WTO), the World Customs Organization (WCO), CODEX Alimentarius, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the International Standards Organization (ISO), and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

JBC International's role as agriculture trade consultants, advocates and market access specialists translates to the following services provided to our clients:

  • Trade Barrier identification, analysis, and removal
  • International regulatory compliance including: production processes, labeling regulations, tariffs and taxes, maximum residual limits, food additive restrictions, and testing and certification requirements
  • Management of food safety initiatives for Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) protocol, traceability, and bioterrorism.
  • Strategic development of market access initiatives for developed and emerging markets
  • Negotiation of harmonization and/or mutual acceptance initiatives between trading partners
  • Consultation on international legal issues
  • Strategy formulation for protection of intellectual property rights for brand names and geographic terms
